Summer 2023
Missy and Ryan pick macroinvertebrates from the kick net, while Ruth identifies them.

Streams Alive!

If you have visited Lake of the Ozarks lately, you know that with the warmer temperatures, activities in and around water increase. At our streams, systems that support the waters or are supported by the water are active, too.

Recently, visits to Lake Creek and Big Buffalo Creek to do Stream Team surveys resulted in fun, learning and even some surprises!

Missy, Ryan, Andrea, Roxanne and Ruth discovered (below, L to R) Mayfly nymphs, Caddisfly cases, Crawdads/Crayfish and Damselflys.  Not to mention the fun of being in the water and trying not to get water in their boots.

Our next stream adventures are scheduled September 11 at Lake Creek and September 18 at Big Buffalo. We hope you can join in on the fun.
Nature Community Comes to Arrow Rock
The weather was perfect for the Annual Birds, Bees & Blooms festival in the historic village of Arrow Rock. Roxanne had free seed packets and fun mud/seed balls for visitors to make and take with them. Ruth had owl pellets that she dissected and let visitors also dissect and take with them!  Andrea helped answer questions, and Paul did nature walks as well as had his wild edible table for visitors to sample.

A big THANK YOU to Missouri River Bird Observatory for providing lunch.
On May 1st Ryan, Missy, Kathy, Andrea, and Roxanne cleaned up the northside of HWY 65 with a total of 17 bags of trash!
On April 4th Roxanne received her 2023 recertification pin, on May 2nd, Ruth received her 2023 recertification pin, and on June 6th Gerald received his 1,000 pin while at our Annual June picnic! Congratulations!
The 2023 Annual Certification Pin is the American Burying Beetle. To receive your Annual Certification Pin, complete only 40 Community Service hours and 8 Advanced Training hours each calendar year.  There are plenty of opportunities to earn these hours, just go to our webpage and see what interests you.
